A CHECKLIST FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS

STEP #1 - Visit with an Academic Advisor

The Transfer Center at University College Advising: 450 SSB, 581-8146. Call for an appointment or see us during our campus visits to various community colleges.
  • Understand the application and acceptance process
  • Make sure you are selecting the best classes for your future transfer
  • Learn about general graduation requirements and how your transfer work applies
  • Receive help deciding on the best major for you at the U.
Departmental Advisors in your Major : Go to www.utah.edu/academics for contact information.
  • Understand major requirements
  • See how your transfer work applies to those requirements
  • Find out about admissions requirements for your major

Be Aware!

Some majors (such as Architecture, Business, Education, Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Social Work) have special application procedures and admissions requirements.

Ensure a smooth transfer by meeting with your departmental advisor at least 2 semesters before you intend to transfer.

STEP #2 - Admit to the University of Utah

The Admissions Office: 250 SSB, 581-7281
  • Fill out an application (this can be done on-line)
  • Have an official transcript sent from all previous schools
  • Pay the application fee of $45.00 (can be paid on-line)
  • Track the status of your application on-line

STEP #3 - Apply for Financial Aid and Scholarships

The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships: 105 SSB, 581-6211
  • Deadlines for turning in financial aid and scholarship applications vary but tend to occur during the late Fall and early Spring Semesters. Check the Financial Aid and Scholarship website for exact deadlines.
  • Scholarship Application for Departmental and Transfer students are usually due in February. Check the Financial Aid office web site for details for all scholarships.

STEP #4 - Get Cleared to Register by Meeting with Your Departmental Advisor

  • Find contact information for the advisor in your major by going to www.utah.edu/academics
  • If you are still deciding on a major set up an appointment with a general transfer advisor in the Transfer Center by calling (801) 581-8146

STEP #5 - Participate in Transfer Student Orientation

The Office of Orientation and New Student Programs: 270 Union Bldg, 581-7069
  • Orientation is mandatory for all new transfer students. Visit the Orientation web site to sign up for an Orientation session.
  • Attend the earliest possible orientation session to have the best selection of classes!

STEP #6 - Send an Official Transcript Again

  • After your grades and/or degree from your current semester have been posted, send another transcript to:
