Out-of-State Transfer Students

Hear from out-of-state transfer student leaders:

Josie Hahn

"Hi! My name is Josie Hahn, and I am an out of state transfer student.

A little bit about me: I am the oldest of four, I'm from New York (about 20 minutes outside of NYC), I have a dog named Kenzie, and I have a cat named Sadi who lives with me in Utah! I transferred to the U going into my sophomore year from Kenyon College.

I am majoring in Psychology with a double minor in History and Nutrition. I am also a student in the Honors College, which has really helped make a big university feel a little smaller. It's such a great community, and I really enjoy having the opportunity to get to know my professors a little better as a result of the smaller class sizes.

One thing I've gotten involved with at the U is undergraduate research! I am a research assistant in the TCT lab on campus, under Dr. Asnaani. One thing I love about being at an R1 institution is the ability to participate in research as an undergraduate student. Most of my Psychology professors do research, and they have all been very helpful in supporting me as I continue to navigate that process.

One of my goals during my time as an undergraduate student has been to study abroad, which I was fortunate enough to be able to do during the summer of 2023! The U offers so many options to do this with programs run by U professors, as well as affiliate programs. My program was a Psychology program where I spent a month in Prague, Czech Republic. This was such an amazing experience that brought me out of my comfort zone and immersed me in a completely new and amazing culture.

At the U, I am also a member of Spiral Jetty Ultimate, the women's ultimate frisbee team. I had never played frisbee before, but the group of people I met have been some of the most supportive people I know. They have really encouraged me to put myself out there and try new things, as well as given me a nice community to rely on.

Finally, I am also a member of the Crimson Transfer Honor Society (CTHS). CTHS has been awesome in supporting me and so many other transfer students. Transferring can be so hard, and having a good support system and knowing who to go to can make all the difference. Having a community of students who share this similar experience has been incredibly helpful in my transfer journey.

If you are an out of state transfer student, or any of this resonates with you, feel free to reach out! I'd love to chat and help out in any way I can!"

Feu Amisone

"Greetings!

My name is Faafeumalo Amisone. I go by Feu and I use she/her pronouns. I was born in Hawaii and was raised in both Hawaii and the place I call home, American Samoa. American Samoa is a small island in the South Pacific region of Polynesia. It is a territory of the United States of America.

I major in political science. I transferred from American Samoa Community College, home of the Chiefs! I am currently a senior and anticipated to graduate in Spring 2024. I intend to go to law school, specialize in either employment, and labor law or civil law...I enjoy family time and fun activities. Dogs/puppies literally drive me crazy, they're just adorable!! Also, I love the color pink! These are just a few things about me, I am excited to work with you all.

God bless"
